Learning at the Prep

sub menu

Nursery (ages 3-4)

Children join our Nursery in the term of their third birthday where the focus is on developing creativity and curiosity through adventurous play.

You may find children learning about balance and forces by building a brick wall or exploring gravity and liquids by building water slides. They also develop early reading and writing skills so they are well prepared for Reception.

The Pre-Prep (4-7)

The Pre-Prep is an exciting time for our 4-7-year-olds where they learn to question, challenge and investigate.

There’s a strong focus on reading, writing and mathematics, as well as science, religious studies, geography and history where your child will be prepared to take their place on the world stage through experimenting, designing, creating and, above all, questioning.

Your child will collide with so many opportunities...

There are two mornings of sport a week – basic ball skills, hockey, cricket, rugby, football, tennis and netball – and are all taught by our specialist PE teachers. There are weekly swimming sessions in our pool, specialist music lessons, cookery, design technology and art.

It’s an all-round education for your child, from good table manners at lunchtime to a hand-shake with their teacher at the end of the day – a programme of discovery that fosters a love of learning to lead to respect, confidence and self-motivation.

The Prep (7-11)

In the Prep School, your child will join an environment focused on challenge for every child. This may mean that children are working at different levels within classes, working towards a new Personal Best time on the sports fields, or building the confidence to move from performing in class assemblies to starring in the Year 6 production.

Effective pupil achievement development is our main purpose and as well as our broad and balanced curriculum, your child will learn through the many opportunities in our co-curricular programme and from the example set by staff.

At the end of his or her time at the Prep, your child will know that learning is fun; he or she will want to investigate and take the initiative in furthering learning; he or she will take pride in achievements and learn from mistakes.

Your child will be adaptable, a good team player and will possess a broad knowledge of the world and, above all, ready to take the next step on their adventure.

Assistant Head

Challenge

We run a special programme of learning which is designed to challenge more able children: the Learning Enrichment Activity Programme.

It gives them opportunities to explore, discover and create, from Latin club to Shakespeare productions, and helps them take their first steps into a world of culture and learning beyond the classroom.

Support

Sometimes children need a little extra help with their reading or support with Maths; other children will need dedicated and continued support with diagnoses such as dyslexia. Our in-house Special Educational Needs team keep a regular eye on all children and work with teachers and parents to make sure every child achieves his or her potential.
